A Love Letter to My Skin

Dear Skin,
I know I don’t show you enough, but I really do love you. Through many years of countless products + harsh ingredients, I’ve come to the realization that you’re more than what I look like from the outside. You’re an integral part of me, from the inside out. And, I thank you for holding me together these almost 40 years - even when I was falling apart in every other way.

I’ve spent countless hours researching, watching YouTube videos + following bloggers to find every nugget out there to show you just how much I appreciate you + to make up for the harsh conditions I’ve carried you along for all these years. The long work days when all I could do was fall into bed without even washing the day off of you. The hours + hours spent with my toes in the sand, enjoying the lullaby of ocean waves + the energy of the sun pouring onto my face. The winter days that chapped + stripped you bare. And all the days in between expecting to see you at your best - even when you haven’t been treated that way.

I’ve spent the last 20 years in this industry where skin matters. And, maybe, it doesn’t just matter. It’s everything. It’s my first impression. The profile marker that’s immediately + sometimes harshly judged. My interview star. My business ammo. Because as a professional in the beauty industry, it’s how I am initially judged.

I‘ve always felt like I take care of my body pretty well. I mean, I rest. I juice. I maintain a diet rich in fruits + veggies. I meditate. Believe + live by the ethos of whole body, mind + spirit wellness. But I’ve definitely at times, lost sight of the most important part of my body: you, skin.

So, this is my love letter to you, skin. My thank you from the bottom of my heart for staying with me all this time - not that you really had a choice. But even without choice. And, without the best of care. And, without thanks. You’ve always shown up for me. And I thank you.

You today - I honor you. I thank you. And know, I will take care of you.
And, I’ll continue to love you as we grow old together.

XOXO,
Cristina
